Almost everyone has some type of weather app on their phone now. These apps can let you know about severe weather changes and assist in keeping you and your property safe. You can also add locations to watch out for friends and family.
Below are seven highly recommended apps to keep you up to date during severe weather.
- Emergency: Alerts - This is app is from the American Red Cross and has some handy features including weather updates, the ability to look up Red Cross shelters, a flashlight, strobe light and audible alarm. It also has preloaded content that doesn’t require an internet connection.
- WeatherBug – This app has incredibly fast update speeds and claim to ping you in half the time that it takes other apps to let you know about severe weather updates. Its’ alerts also come with preparedness tips.
- Storm Shield – This app keep you up to date on the weather for your current location and allows very specific levels of customization to your alerts. Storm Shield’s alerts come through in text and voice format.
- Storm Radar – This is the Weather Channel’s severe weather app. It includes lighting trackers and allows you to track severe storms’ paths via radar imaging.
- FEMA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency app alerts for every kind of severe weather event you could think of, without maps, radar or data points to analyze. This app also provides preparedness tips and resources.
- Alert FM – This app will update you with voice and text alerts and allow you to track severe weather with radar. Alert FM will also announce evacuation and shelter locations.
- Alert Sense – The app allows you bookmark specific addresses and set quiet hours. During quiet hours, you will only receive emergency alerts and severe weather warmings.
